From August 31 to September 9, the "China-South and Southeast Asia University Student Friendship Games Alliance" held the "5th Lancang-Mekong University Student Friendship Games and 7th South and Southeast Asian University Student Cultural and Sports Exchange Week in Kunming" hosted by Kunming University of Science and Technology.

After 9 days of intense competition, the university's high-level women's volleyball team, led by Mao Ruihong, Deputy Director of the PE Department, and coached by teacher Wang Zihan, narrowly lost to Sichuan University in the championship match, securing second place in the tournament.

It is reported that as one of the series of activities of the 7th South and Southeast Asia Education Cooperation Kunming Forum in Yunnan Province, and also a premium event of the 2024 "People-to-People Friendship, Education in Action" South and Southeast Asia Education Cooperation, this event lasted for 10 days. More than 770 teachers and students from 28 universities in 12 countries including China, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and the Philippines registered to participate. The event included four major sports categories: football, volleyball, badminton, and martial arts, with a total of 55 sub-events.
